Motorola launching new Moto G and new Moto X in August
- A new Moto G and Moto X could be arriving as early as next month according to the latest rumours. First spotted by Pisapapeles, the two phones have supposedly been leaked ahead of schedule by Chile's largest telecoms firm, Entel.
- If the leaked pictures are to be believed, the new Moto G will have
the same 5in screen as the current 2nd Gen model, but will have a
13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera. This is a
significant step-up from the current 8-megapixel snapper on the back of
the 2nd Gen Moto G, so it should hopefully be able to take even better
pictures when it launches in August.
- It also looks as though Motorola will be adding a new processor to
the new Moto G, as the quad-core 1.4GHz processor mentioned in the
pictures has a higher clock speed than both the quad-core 1.2GHz
Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor in the 2nd Gen Moto G and the
quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor in the 2nd Gen Moto
E.
- Meanwhile, the new Moto X seems to be called the Moto X Sport, which
suggests it might be a ruggedised version of the current 2nd Gen Moto X.
It shares the same 5.2in screen after all, but will increase the rear
camera to 16-megapixels from its current size of 13-megapixels. The
front camera will have a 5-megapixel sensor.
- Slightly more puzzling is its supposed processor. According to the
images, the Moto X Sport will have a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, but
this seems unlikely if Motorola want to keep it as its leading flagship
handset. The Moto X Sport may well be priced slightly lower to
accommodate this, but we won't know for sure until Motorola make an
official announcement.
-
It's also telling that the leaked picture of the Moto X Sport has more in common with the 1st Gen Moto X
than the 2nd Gen model. We doubt Motorola would revert back to its old
design for the new Moto X, but hopefully it won't be too long before we
find out for sure.
