World’s Largest 4G Network Goes Live

The world's largest 4G network has gone live across India under Reliance Jio.
 On Monday, Reliance Jio rolled out its 4G services in India. Anyone with a 4G-enabled phone is eligible to receive a SIM card for the network unlike before, when only select smartphone brands, like Samsung, LG, HTC, and Asus, were covered. The SIM cards, which are free for the first month of the promotion, are now available at over 200 thousand partner stores across the country, including in Reliance Digital outlets. The Jio SIM card includes an offer for unlimited access to 4G internet data, free voice calls, and roaming calls for the first three months. The promotion, coined the "Welcome Offer" by Reliance Industries Limited's Chairman, Mukesh Ambani, also includes access to Jio apps, like JioChat, JioMusic, MyJio, and JioMoney for free. With these apps, users can assess unlimited music, on-demand video, and films.

Plans start at 149 rupees (roughly $2.00) and go up to 4,999 rupees (roughly $75.00), with users having the option to pay 50 rupees (roughly $1.00) for each additional gigabyte of data that they use that is not covered by their plans. The costliest plan comes with free unlimited data access, although all users can access free internet during nighttime hours. Voice calls will always be free for customers, even when their phones begin roaming, and each plan includes at least 100 free SMS messages.
